Grout calculator
Convert a product-specific grout consumption rate into required kilograms and complete bags.
How to use this calculator
How to measure
Enter the tiled area. Obtain kg/m² from the exact manufacturer's calculator or datasheet using tile dimensions, thickness and joint width, then enter the bag mass.
Worked example
20 m² at 0.4 kg/m² needs 8 kg net. With 10% allowance that is 8.8 kg; 5 kg bags require 2 bags and provide 10 kg.
Formula and purchasing method
net mass = area × product consumption; planned mass = net × (1 + allowance/100); bags = ceil(planned mass ÷ bag mass).
Assumptions
- The manufacturer consumption rate already reflects tile and joint geometry.
- Area and rate refer to the same installation system.
Limitations
- Tile roughness, residual material and jobsite technique can change consumption.
- Formula v1 does not derive density from raw joint dimensions.
FAQ
Why do I need a manufacturer consumption rate?
Grout demand depends on joint volume and product density; a generic constant would be misleading.
Can I use kg per bag from another product?
Only if the rate and bag size both belong to the product you will buy.
