Fence panels and posts
Calculate whole panels and posts for independent straight runs from the current system bay spacing entered by the user.
How to use this calculator
How to measure
Measure every straight run separately, deduct gate/opening widths, and copy panel width or bay spacing from the selected system manual—not from this example source.
Worked example
A 10 m run with a 2 m opening leaves 8 m. With 10% allowance and 2 m bays, 8.8 m requires 5 panels and 6 posts.
Formula and method
For each run: net = gross − openings; planned = net × (1 + allowance/100); panels = ceil(planned ÷ bay width); posts = panels + 1. Sum independent runs.
Assumptions
- Runs are independent, each with its own start and end post.
- System spacing is copied from the current selected-system document.
Limitations
- Shared corner/end posts are not deduplicated; gates and special posts are not selected.
- No wind loads, footing design or manufacturer-system approval.
FAQ
Why can adjacent runs count two corner posts?
The model treats every run independently so it cannot infer a shared detail.
Is there a default Betafence spacing?
No. Enter the spacing from your current system instruction.

A linked manufacturer document is contextual for that product/system only. Current product yield, spacing and density must come from the exact item selected by the user.
