Aggregate volume
Calculate net and planned aggregate volume from measured area, target design depth and explicit allowance.
How to use this calculator
How to measure
Measure the rectangular length and width and enter the target finished/design layer depth. Treat allowance as material contingency, never as a compaction factor.
Worked example
A 10 m × 5 m area at 0.1 m target depth is 5 m³ net. A 10% allowance adds 0.5 m³ for 5.5 m³ planned.
Formula and method
Area = length × width. Net volume = area × target depth. Planned volume = net volume × (1 + allowance ÷ 100).
Assumptions
- Depth is the user-selected target layer thickness.
- Allowance is separate from any project-specific compaction method.
Limitations
- No automatic compaction, loose-volume or settlement factor.
- No density, grading, moisture, delivery or truck calculation.
FAQ
Should I enter loose depth?
Enter the target/design depth stated for your task; the calculator does not convert between loose and compacted states.
Is allowance a compaction factor?
No. It is only the explicit extra percentage you choose.
