Baseboard calculator
Calculate net perimeter, explicit waste and whole stock lengths of baseboard for a rectangular room.
How to use this calculator
How to measure
Measure room length and width along the finished wall. Add widths of doorways or other runs where no baseboard will be installed, then copy one stock length from the selected product.
Worked example
A 5 × 4 m room has an 18 m perimeter. Deducting a 1 m doorway leaves 17 m; 10% waste gives 18.7 m. Stock lengths of 2.4 m require 8 pieces and provide 19.2 m.
Formula and purchasing method
perimeter = 2 × (length + width); net = perimeter − excluded runs; planned = net × (1 + waste/100); pieces = ceil(planned ÷ stock length).
Assumptions
- The room plan is rectangular.
- Excluded doorway lengths do not overlap and one stock length is used.
Limitations
- Formula v1 does not optimize offcut reuse, mitres or joint locations.
- Corners, connectors, end caps, profiles and installation loss beyond the entered waste are excluded.
FAQ
Should I subtract door widths?
Subtract doorway runs only when no baseboard will cross them.
Why might the purchased length be much higher?
Whole stock lengths are rounded up and formula v1 does not optimize offcut reuse.
