Terrace intentHow much concrete do I need for a terrace?
Terraces are usually larger slabs than patios, so the same calculation applies but the ordering allowance becomes more important.
Best for
- Terraces
- Large patios
- Outdoor slabs
Worked example
A 8 m by 4 m terrace at 0.12 m thickness
A terrace uses the same rectangular slab calculation as a patio, but the larger area makes rounding up a little more worthwhile.
Example
8 m × 4 m × 0.12 m = 3.84 m3. With 8 percent waste, the adjusted order volume is 4.15 m3.
Formula
Volume = length × width × thickness
Adjusted volume = volume × (1 + waste / 100)

Terrace planning tips
Large slab
Break the terrace into smaller rectangles if it has steps or openings.
Check the finish
A larger visible surface can use extra material during finishing and edging.
Add a small margin
A modest waste factor keeps the order safer for long pours.
